| Eleven
minutes and thirty seconds. The opening movement is an account
of the tension and bating of the Irish people by the English leading
up to the incident at the Harrow. The English had feared an alliance
between the league of free Irishmen and the French. They tried to
push the insurgents into an uprising before the French could organize
their arrival in Wexford. The evil of the occupiers is heralded by
a demonic trumpet fanfare at the beginning. An atmosphere of tension
is maintained throughout the movement. The tension and fear are blended
with a Celtic feel. The incident culminated in the slaughtering of
an English cavalry party after an arrogant exchange with the crowd.

| Eight
minutes. The second movement is an account of the brief triumph,
joy and celebration immediately after the insurgents invaded Wexford.
The movement includes the victor's retribution against prisoners from
Wexford Jail. The trumpet and flute proudly play Celtic themes. The
movement also covers feelings of the blend of people incorporated
in the insurgent's army from the involuntary commitment of those who
were conscripted through their circumstances to those who were proud
to die for their cause. The black flag carried the slogan "murder
without sin" as some of the leaders were catholic priests. |
| Twenty
six minutes. Vinegar Hill was the insurgent's camp. The old mill
on the hill was their headquarters. This movement is an emotional
account within the camp over the entire period of the uprising. It
chronicles the confusion and uncertainty that would have been caused
by the different types of people who were gathered there. The movement
records the months to the end of the uprising. The English cavalry
can be heard attacking the crowd. The movement ends with an image
of death and carnage. |
| Ten
minutes. The final movement starts as a requiem. The music begins
by evoking imagery of the carnage then an imaginary camera moves backwards
and upwards as if it is also passing forward through time. Halfway
through the movement becomes positive with the introduction of the
piano. The mood changes and symphony concludes with emotions of freedom
and pride. |

temi celtici. Il movimento copre anche i sentimenti della miscela
di persone incorporati nell'esercito dell'insorto dall'impegno involontario
di quelli che furono coscritti attraverso le loro circostanze a quelli

comincia chiamare poi immagine della strage una macchina fotografica
immaginaria si muove indietro e verso l'alto come se sta passando
anche in avanti attraverso tempo. A metà strada attraverso il movimento
diviene positivo con l'introduzione del pianoforte. L'umore cambia
e sinfonia conclude con emozioni della libertà e l'orgoglio.
